In-Situ Tissue Engineering for Bone Regeneration

In-situ tissue engineering refers to the regeneration of clinically useful tissue (in this case bone) in the site desired. Combining clinically available growth factors, cell composites and an acceptable matrix, predictable bone regeneration has already been proven in sinus lift surgeries, ridge augmentations, cystic defects, and even continuity defects. The use of in-situ engineering is safe, reduces patient morbidity, and regenerates implantable bone in the outpatient clinical setting without the need for bone harvesting or complex instrumentation.

Marx, DDS is Professor of Surgery and Chief of the Division of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine, and is well known as an educator, researcher, and innovative surgeon.  He has pioneered new concepts and treatments for pathologies of the oral and maxillofacial area as well as new techniques in reconstructive surgery.
